Chapter 29
The longer they were together, the more Li Xuan's spoiled streak crept back out.
He caught a little flu, took a few days off, and spent the whole time horizontal — couldn't even be bothered to pick up chopsticks. Su Xingchuan spoon-fed him every meal.
'Aren't you embarrassed, Dr. Li.' Su Xingchuan laughed between spoonfuls.
Li Xuan didn't even flinch. He just directed traffic: 'Not that piece — I want the lean meat. Pick out the ginger and scallions. I want the broth.'
Su Xingchuan called him a little emperor under his breath, but waited on him without a single complaint. Once Li Xuan finished eating he got him settled, washed up the dishes, came back, and checked his ear temperature — by which point Li Xuan was already fast asleep.
Only when the number came down did he finally relax.
Li Xuan slept, and when he woke up Su Xingchuan was lying beside him, arm around him, dead to the world.
He reached out and tapped Su Xingchuan's nose.
'What are those little paws doing.'
'I was just thinking about the first time I saw you,' Li Xuan said.
That night. That alley. Su Xingchuan stepping in front of him.
'And?'
'I thought — it'd be nice if you could just take care of me. Forever.'
Su Xingchuan laughed despite himself and flicked Li Xuan lightly on the nose. 'So you weren't looking for a boyfriend. You were looking for a nanny.'
Li Xuan looked at him straight. 'So will you? Take care of me. Forever.'
Su Xingchuan leaned down and kissed him. 'Don't worry. I'll take care of you for the rest of your life.'
